Fixation Quick Guide

1. Use 10% neutral buffered formalin
2. Fixative-to-tissue ratio about 10:1
3. Slice thick specimens for penetration
4. Fix promptly — minimise cold ischaemia
5. Adequate fixation time for specimen size
6. Record time in and out of fixative

Under-fixation and delay cannot be corrected later.
