The digital histopathology journey

From biopsy to a permanent digital record

Every stage is tracked in one system — the physical specimen and its digital slide stay tied to the same case, from receipt to long-term archive.

Why digital pathology

What going digital actually gives your lab

🔬

See slides on a screen, not just the microscope

Whole-slide imaging turns a glass slide into a high-resolution digital slide your pathologists can pan and zoom on any monitor — no slide has to travel.

🩺

Faster specialist and second opinions

Share a case digitally with a sub-specialist anywhere, instead of couriering glass. The LIS keeps the request, response and version on the same case.

🗂️

A permanent, searchable slide archive

Digital slides don’t fade, break or get misfiled. Prior cases stay instantly retrievable for review, teaching and audit.

🔗

One connected workflow — not islands

The scanner, the digital slide and the report live inside one histopathology LIS, tracked from accession to sign-out with a full audit trail.

🖥️

Whole-slide scanners

TissueScope LE and TissueScope iQ scanners (Huron Digital Pathology) — brightfield whole-slide imaging for routine and research histopathology.

🧬

Digital slide management in the LIS

Attach whole-slide images to the case by reference and open them in a built-in deep-zoom viewer — right next to the report. Gigapixel files stay on the tile server; nothing huge is uploaded.

Case & slide tracking

Barcoded case → cassette → block → slide chain of custody, so every physical and digital slide is accounted for from receipt to archive.

🤝

Second-opinion workflow

Request an internal or external second opinion on any case and capture the response on the record — versioned and audit-logged.

Who it’s for

Built for the labs digitising histopathology in India

🏛️

Medical colleges

Teaching sets, digital slide libraries and second-opinion workflows for training and diagnostics.

🏥

Hospitals & oncology centres

Faster sub-specialist review, tumour-board sharing and a durable digital archive.

Reference & multi-site labs

Move images, not glass, between sites — one platform, many labs, each isolated.

A conservative, honest word

What we do and don’t claim

We supply the scanners, the digital-slide viewer, the LIS workflow and the service to run them. We do not claim guaranteed clinical outcomes, and your laboratory remains responsible for validating any diagnostic use of digital slides under your accreditation body’s guidance. Distributed scanners are supplied and supported in India by Unimeditrek; the LIS is our own software.

FAQs

Common questions on going digital

Do I need to replace my microscopes to go digital?

No. Digital pathology augments the microscope — you add a whole-slide scanner and the LIS digital-slide viewer, and keep using microscopes wherever you prefer. Adoption can be gradual, case-type by case-type.

Where are the gigapixel whole-slide images stored?

Whole-slide images are attached to the case by reference (the LIS stores the tile/DICOMweb source or the scanner’s viewer link), so multi-gigabyte files stay on your scanner or tile server and there is no massive upload or storage surprise.

Is digital pathology usable for primary diagnosis in India?

Many labs use whole-slide imaging for teaching, archiving, second opinion and research today, and increasingly for primary review. Your laboratory decides its own validated use, following your accreditation body’s guidance; we provide the equipment, viewer and workflow.

How does this connect to the rest of my histopathology workflow?

Through the Unimeditrek Histopathology LIS: the scanner, the digital slide, the barcoded specimen chain and the authorised report are all part of one system, from accessioning to archive.
