Out-of-focus regions on whole-slide images
Regions of the whole-slide image appear blurred or lacking detail, making it difficult to assess cellular structures.
Where it usually appears: Typically observed in areas of the slide that are not properly focused during scanning.
- Inadequate focus during scanning
- Slide thickness variation
- Incorrect Z-axis calibration
- Dirt or damage on the objective lens
- Verify the focus setting of the scanner
- Inspect the slide for physical damage or uneven thickness
- Re-scan the slide with adjusted focus
- Clean the objective lens thoroughly
- Regular maintenance of the scanning equipment
- Ensure slides are prepared with consistent thickness
