Purpose
To ensure the proper transport and maintenance of specimens under cold chain conditions to preserve integrity and viability.
Scope

Responsibilities
- Laboratory staff: Ensure specimens are packaged and transported according to this SOP.

- Thermal containers

Procedure
- Prepare the specimen by ensuring it is properly labeled and sealed.
- Select appropriate thermal container based on specimen type and transport duration.
- Place ice packs in the thermal container to maintain required temperature.
- Carefully pack the specimen within the thermal container, ensuring it is secure.
- Seal the container and label it with transport information and handling instructions.
- Transport the specimen directly to the designated laboratory area without unnecessary delays.
Records
- Transport log documenting time, date, and personnel involved in the transport.
- Specimen tracking form to ensure traceability.
Safety
- Always wear appropriate PPE when handling specimens.
- Ensure containers are secure to prevent spills during transport.
