Mounting & Coverslipping SOP
Purpose
To ensure proper mounting and coverslipping of histological slides to preserve tissue morphology and prevent damage.
Scope
This SOP applies to all personnel involved in the finishing process of histopathology slides.
Responsibilities
- Technician: Perform mounting and coverslipping procedures accurately.
- Quality Manager: Ensure adherence to SOP and conduct regular audits.
Materials & equipment
- Mounting medium
- Coverslips
- Microscope slides
- Forceps
- Slide drying rack
- Labeling stickers
Procedure
- Prepare the microscope slides with stained tissue sections.
- Select appropriate mounting medium based on the type of staining used.
- Using forceps, place a coverslip gently over the tissue section.
- Ensure there are no air bubbles trapped under the coverslip.
- Allow the mounting medium to set as per manufacturer's instructions.
- Label each slide with the appropriate identification information.

Safety
- Wear gloves and goggles when handling chemicals.
- Dispose of used coverslips and materials in designated waste containers.
