Purpose

To operate and maintain the floatation bath for section expansion.

Scope

Water-bath operation and cleaning.

Responsibilities

Microtomy technician

Materials & equipment

Floatation bath
Distilled water, thermometer

Procedure

Fill with clean distilled water; set and verify temperature (~8–10°C below wax MP).
Skim the surface between blocks to remove debris.
Avoid cross-contamination between cases.
Empty, clean and refill at least daily.
Log the temperature each session.
