Purpose

Responsibilities
- Laboratory staff: Ensure proper segregation of waste at the point of generation.
- Waste management personnel: Oversee the disposal process and maintain records.

Procedure
- Identify and classify waste types at the point of generation.
- Use color-coded bins for different waste categories: red for biohazard, yellow for infectious, etc.
- Ensure all waste is placed in appropriate containers immediately after use.
- Seal biohazard bags securely before disposal.
- Dispose of sharps in designated sharps containers only.
- Conduct regular inspections of waste storage areas to ensure compliance.
