Spot diagnosis: nests of cells with keratin pearls
Head & neck / skin
Simulated educational case. An H&E section from a skin/mucosal biopsy (adult age range) shows irregular nests and sheets of atypical squamous cells infiltrating the dermis. There are intercellular bridges and concentric whorls of pink keratin (keratin pearls). Mitoses are present.
Question: What is the most likely diagnosis, and what two morphological clues support it?
