Wax too cold (layering lines in the block)
Also known as: cold wax layering, incomplete embedding
The block shows distinct layering lines, indicating uneven wax distribution. The tissue may appear poorly infiltrated or have a spongy texture.
Where it usually appears: Typically observed during the embedding process when the wax is at a low temperature.
- Wax temperature is set too low
- Insufficient time for wax infiltration
- Rapid cooling of the embedding mold
- Check the temperature of the embedding wax
- Inspect the embedding mold for proper heating
- Increase the temperature of the embedding wax
- Allow more time for complete infiltration before embedding
- Regularly calibrate the wax temperature settings
- Monitor the wax temperature frequently during embedding
