Water spots or drying marks on the slide
Also known as: slide artifacts, drying artifacts
Visible water spots or marks that disrupt the clarity of the specimen. They may appear as irregular shapes or halos on the slide.
Where it usually appears: Typically observed after drying or during slide preparation.
- Inadequate drying time after staining
- Contaminated water or mounting medium
- Humidity in the environment
- Improper handling of slides
- Inspect the water source for contaminants
- Check humidity levels in the lab
- Ensure proper drying time before mounting
- Re-stain the slide if necessary
- Use a clean, dry mounting medium
- Wipe the slide gently with a lint-free cloth
- Allow sufficient drying time before mounting
- Use distilled or deionized water for rinsing
- Maintain a controlled environment with stable humidity
