Turnaround-time delays from re-cuts
Re-cuts may show uneven staining or poor morphology on slides. Blocks may appear to have irregular edges or inconsistencies.
Where it usually appears: Typically observed during histological examination when initial cuts are unsatisfactory.
- Inadequate fixation time
- Improper embedding technique
- Incorrect microtome settings
- Poor quality of tissue sample
- Inconsistent sectioning technique
- Verify fixation time for samples
- Check embedding quality of blocks
- Inspect microtome blade sharpness
- Re-fix samples if fixation was inadequate
- Re-embed tissue samples properly
- Adjust microtome settings for optimal sectioning
- Implement standardized fixation protocols
- Train staff on embedding and sectioning techniques
- Regularly maintain and calibrate microtome equipment
