Sections stick to the anti-roll plate or blade
Also known as: section adhesion, section sticking
Sections may appear wrinkled or torn on the slide, with visible remnants on the anti-roll plate or blade.
Where it usually appears: Typically observed during microtomy of paraffin-embedded tissues, especially with delicate samples.
- Insufficiently cooled paraffin blocks
- Too thick sections
- Dirty or damaged blade
- Improper blade angle
- Excessive blade pressure
- Check the temperature of the paraffin block
- Inspect the blade for damage or debris
- Re-trim the block to achieve a better surface
- Replace or clean the blade
- Adjust the angle of the blade
- Ensure proper cooling of the block before sectioning
- Regularly clean the blade and anti-roll plate
- Train staff on proper microtomy techniques
