Sections overlap on the slide
Sections appear layered or stacked on the slide, making it difficult to distinguish individual specimens.
Where it usually appears: Often seen during the mounting process or when preparing multiple sections from a single block.
- Inadequate warming of the slide surface prior to mounting
- Excessive thickness of the sections
- Improper handling during transfer from the water bath to the slide
- Inconsistent sectioning technique
- Inspect the slide temperature to ensure it is adequately warmed
- Evaluate the section thickness using a micrometer
- Re-mount the sections with proper spacing and technique
- Use a heated slide warmer to facilitate proper adhesion
- Ensure consistent sectioning thickness during the cutting process
- Maintain optimal slide temperatures during mounting
- Train personnel on proper handling techniques for sections
