Sections fly off due to static
Also known as: static cling, static charge
Sections may appear incomplete or missing from the slide. They can curl or be displaced during transfer.
Where it usually appears: Typically observed during sectioning of paraffin-embedded tissues, especially in low humidity environments.
- Low humidity in the microtomy area
- Insufficient hydration of the tissue block
- Use of plastic or non-conductive materials
- Check humidity levels in the microtomy area
- Inspect the tissue block for adequate hydration
- Increase humidity in the microtomy area using a humidifier
- Use anti-static devices or sprays during sectioning
- Maintain optimal humidity levels in the lab
- Use conductive blades or equipment to reduce static buildup
