Scan failures on faint or thick sections
Also known as: scan issues, scanning errors
Sections may appear underexposed or overly dense in scanned images. Details may be obscured or lost in the scanning process.
Where it usually appears: Commonly seen with poorly prepared sections that are either too thin or too thick, particularly in histological samples.
- Inadequate sectioning technique
- Incorrect scanner settings
- Poor staining quality
- Inconsistent sample thickness
- Improper mounting medium
- Verify section thickness
- Inspect staining quality
- Check scanner calibration
- Adjust scanner settings
- Re-cut sections to appropriate thickness
- Re-stain samples if necessary
- Ensure consistent sectioning technique
- Regularly calibrate scanning equipment
- Use appropriate mounting media
