Retort fails to drain or fill
Tissue processing may be incomplete, leading to poor infiltration or fixation. Slides may show poorly preserved morphology or empty spaces in blocks.
Where it usually appears: Typically observed during routine processing of tissue samples when the retort fails to function properly.
- Clogged drainage line

- Airlock in the system
- Incorrect fluid levels
- Malfunctioning sensors
- Inspect the drainage line for blockages
- Check fluid levels in the retort
- Ensure the pump is operational
- Clear any clogs in the drainage line
- Repair or replace faulty pump components
- Eliminate airlocks by priming the system
