H&E Staining QC Checklist
A per-batch quality-control checklist for routine H&E staining. Use with a known control section. Validate reagent times to your own reagents.
Before staining
Deparaffinisation complete (no residual wax)
Reagents within validated condition; hematoxylin filtered
Adhesive/charged slides used for difficult tissue
Stain quality
Nuclei crisp blue-purple with chromatin detail (not pale, not inky)
Cytoplasm & connective tissue clear pink contrast
Even staining across the slide and batch
No precipitate, blue background or tissue lifting
Control & records
Known control section shows balanced staining
No recurring defects across the batch
Batch, protocol, operator & reagent status recorded
Corrective action logged for any defect
